what it's all about

I am on a journey -like you, I'm sure. A personal journey, a spiritual journey. A journey about passions, growth, and living. I don't have a good memory, but I value my experiences. It's very strange when you realize that you are being shaped constantly, but ultimately only remember some of the reasons why you are the person you're becoming. I find that when things resonate within me, writing about them helps me to better develop my opinions about them, and to remember them. Sometimes, it's the simple act of looking back and reminding myself where I've been that is all I need to move forward with confidence. That's why I write. Thank you for joining me.

It's been a while

and my hair has changed a lot. It's still not where I thought it'd be, but I'm happy with it. I've come to accept that i will probably always have frizzy locs. Here they are- all curled up.

Coming along!

So, at the beginning of the month, I saw April. Yes, I have waited all this time to update you. I really have no excuse. Well except for sunshine and springtime tearing me away from my computer. Anyway, I did my normal luxurious wash, but before that, April spent some time "shaving" (which is more like trimming with shears) along the length of each loc. I was excited to see what it would look like when she was done, but alas, I couldn't really tell until now. What?? I know. Doesn't make a lot of sense yet, does it. Well, hang on!

I knew I had a wedding to go to the following weekend, and I asked April to give me a style that would last and look different, so we did itty bitty bantu knots. I totally loved them. They were so cute, and totally gave me that sleek, short haired look that I love. They were also nice and cool and a cinch to take care of- since I had to do absolutely nothing to them!

When I was ready to take them out, my mom took little scissors to each rubber band, and I was left with a head of really tight curls. Most of them still stayed twisted in little knots. Good thing I took them down a few days before the wedding so that the curls would have time to loosen and relax!

Here are a boatload of pics!

So, now my hair has been washed and no longer has those fun, girly curls. But, I am pleased to say they are starting to really look like locks. The shaving helped a lot! Yay! That makes me more happy than you could know. See for yourself!
getting longer, too!

Can you see the difference? So, you can see that the roots are still frizzy. I have a feeling my crown will always look this way. But the locs themselves are maturing, and I love it! :)

How's your hair coming along?

Got My Hair Did!

April was in town, so I jumped at the chance to see her. This was the first time professionals have touched my hair since I saw her last November. It was so great to catch up. I got a vigorous shampoo and just enjoyed having my hair done while laughing and chatting with April. Next time I see her- which she says will be in 5-6 weeks, we are going to shave the frizzies off of my more matured parts. She has to be really careful, though, to avoid thinning. I am really excited about that. My hair will actually look like locs! Woohoo! I-Can't-Wait!

So, April had been snipping ends off of locs as she went. When all was done, she gathered up all the hair and rubbed it between her hands. It made a loc! lol. So weird and cool.

I didn't take any pictures that day, but here is my hair a couple mornings after, and a couple pictures taken of me and the hubby over the weekend.

scarf headband

I was hot this morning, but tired of the elastic headbands I've been wearing, so I tied my hair back with a small scarf.

My hair is still a frizzy hot mess, but on the plus side, I get to see April in a couple weeks! Hooray! I wonder what she'll say of this crazy hair....

Just a Sunday

Here is my everyday look. No retwist, fuzzy as can be, and totally OK with it. :)

I promise you, there are locs in there somewhere.... Mostly in the back and closer to the roots.
I'm off to a Superbowl party. Tell me the truth- would you go out with your hair looking like this? I bet my neighbors will give me the side eye all night long. lol. Oh well.

Hi!

Wow, I have been neglecting this blog, and I am sorry! My hair doesn't really seem to be doing too much...(except confusing and frustrating me!)... so I have had n need to post. No real updates here. :(

I have lots of pictures for you to show you how my hair has progressed since I saw April in November of last year. It is definitely growing, and I can feel it locking up. It still looks like a frizzy, curly mess to me, but i think it always will have some frizz. I know a lot of it is because the ends aren't sealing and are still curly. But I don't mind it, and believe it or not, I still get complements on my hair all the time.

These are from this morning...

So, as you can see, though it is growing, my hair doesn't look that different. If you could touch it, though, you'd see that the newer sections of hair are in fact locking, thought they are still frizzy. I'm gonna stick with it though. I have only retwisted maybe twice this year... maybe. But I do interlock the new growth periodically. I think because my hair is so soft, I will have to keep doing that as it grows... I might retwist in the next week or so, and I'll be sure to post pictures if I do!
